Bonnie Raitt's face was shocked to win the 2023 Grammy song this year

A "shocked" and "incredibly humbled" Bonnie Raitt accepted a Grammy Award on Sunday for song of the year.

The legendary singer appeared stunned when she won the prize for her song "Just Like That" and received a standing ovation from the audience at Crypto.com Arena Los Angeles. During his acceptance speech, he paid tribute to famed folk musician John Prine, who died in April 2020 from complications from COVID-19.

Throughout his decades-long career, Raitt has been the darling of the Grammys - amassing 13 wins and dozens of nominations. In his 2023 Grammy predictions, Times pop music critic Mikael Wood called the 73-year-old Raitt "tight competition" in this year's song category with "a moving and complex tale of a mother's encounter with the recipient of her late son's liver transplant."

Nominated alongside "Just Like That" in the song of the year category are "abcdefu" (Gayle), "About Damn Time" (Lizzo), "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" (Taylor Swift), "As It Was” ( Harry Styles), "Bad Habit" (Steve Lacy), "Break My Soul" (BeyoncĂ©), "Easy on Me" (Adele), "God Did" (DJ Khaled) and "The Heart Part 5" (Kendrick implements) .

Raitt also took home Grammy Awards this year for an American song (“Just Like That”) and an Americana performance (“Made Up Mind”).

Below is his complete acceptance speech.

Geez. Ouch, I was so shocked. I didn't know what to say. It's just a moment that isn't real. Thank you for honoring me, to all the academies who have surrounded me with so much support and valued the art of songwriting as I am. I was so inspired for this song by the incredible story of love and the grace and generosity of someone who donates his or her lover's organs to help others live, and the story is so simple and so beautiful for now.

And people respond to that song in part because of how much I love and we all love John Prine, and that's the inspiration for the music for this song and it tells a story from within. ... I don't write a lot of songs, but I'm so proud that you appreciate this one and what it means to me and to other songwriters. ...

I wouldn't be here tonight if it weren't for the artistry of the amazing, soul-digging, hardworking people who put this song and idea to music. So I'm grateful to my team for helping me get this record out. And thank you very much. I am truly humbled. I truly appreciate it. Thank You.
